The central idea of my concentration revolved around skeletal figures throughout different eras in history. My main purpose is to enhance my skills in designing detailed works of art as well as developing my skills using graphite and ebony pencil, in which they are the medium for my concentration. I decided to draw skeletons due to their exquisite anatomy and texture which will help me accomplish my objective.

Before I began my concentration, I tried to increase my knowledge on skeletal anatomy and also practiced techniques using ebony pencil. A massive influence was Bernhard Siegfried Albinus, an eighteenth century artist who studied anatomy. When I first started my concentrations, I created some basic skeletal shapes from a skeleton model that one of my instructors had set up. For my concentrations, the main focus was on making the skeleton anatomy legitimately correct, especially with pieces 1, 5, and 12 since they are more exposed and show more bone structure. Once I had the anatomy done efficiently I drew in the details so that it may have a realistic look. To make the skeletons have a realistic look I drew some areas smooth and others more rigid. Some of the techniques I used were cross hatching, blending, side strokes, and tonal grading. I also bolded and made the skeletons darker so they may be more eye-catching. I created the environment around the skeletons to fit each piece its theme. For example, concentration 02 had hieroglyphics in the background because of its Egyptian theme. For my last concentrations, 07-12, I decided to use the Ebony pencil to create some great contrast with my pieces.
